But commissioning artwork is expensive, and most indie authors write without any visual support. Noveble's Chapter Image Generation changes that: you can now create AI-generated illustrations directly within your chapters, either by selecting the exact text you want visualized or by letting AI identify the best scenes for you.

Two Ways to Generate Images

Manual Selection: You Choose the Moment

Sometimes you know exactly which sentence should become an image. Select any text passage (at least 20 characters), and a "Generate Image" button appears. Choose your art style, and the AI creates an illustration for that specific moment.

This works well when:

You have a vivid mental picture of a scene
You want to highlight a specific detail or symbolic moment
The important scene might not be the most "dramatic" one

Auto Detection: AI Finds Visual Scenes

Click "Auto Images" and the AI analyzes your entire chapter, identifying 3-8 scenes with strong visual potential. Each detected scene shows:

A descriptive title
The exact text passage
Importance rating (High/Medium/Low)
Characters appearing in the scene

This works well when:

You've finished a chapter and want to add illustrations quickly
You're not sure which moments would make good images
You want consistent visual coverage across chapters

How It Works

Scene Detection uses AI to scan for visual density in your text. It looks for:

Action moments: battles, chases, dramatic gestures
Environmental reveals: entering a new location, weather changes, time of day
Character focus: first appearances, emotional expressions, confrontations
Pivotal plot points: revelations, decisions, transformations

Image Generation then takes the selected text plus context from your novel—character appearances, setting descriptions, the scene's mood—and creates a coherent illustration.

Art Styles

Each image can be generated in two styles:

Anime — Best for fantasy, romance, action, light novels. Vibrant colors, expressive characters, stylized look.

Realistic — Best for historical, thriller, literary fiction. Photorealistic details, natural lighting, cinematic feel.

The style affects tone: anime feels energetic and emotional; realistic feels grounded and weighty.

Character Consistency

If you've defined characters in your novel project with appearance descriptions, Noveble automatically includes this information when generating images. Characters maintain consistent looks across multiple illustrations—same hair color, clothing style, distinctive features.

For scenes with multiple characters, you can upload reference images for up to 2 main characters to ensure even better consistency.

Versions and Refinement

Not satisfied with the first result? Each image supports:

Regenerate: create a completely new image
Quirk: request specific changes ("add rain", "make the lighting darker")
Delete: remove if none of the versions work

Each image location keeps up to 3 versions, so you can compare and choose.

Practical Notes

Cost: 2 credits per image (about $0.13)

Recommended usage: 2-4 images per chapter. Too many images interrupt reading flow; too few miss opportunities. Focus on chapter openings, emotional peaks, and major reveals.

Where images appear: Inline, right after the text they illustrate. They become part of the reading experience, not separate attachments.
